West Windsor 5 & Dime on Mount Ascutney, Vermont

What a great trail run in Vermont this morning. The West Windsor 5 & Dime trail run got me into Vermont for the first time since 2005.

The drive into Windsor was spectacular; the quintessential Vermont town with narrow roads and green, green trees.

I’ve never been to Mount Ascutney and while it is no longer an operating ski resort the trails are spectacular for running, hiking and mountain biking.

The 10K started up the mountain right away and then in about a mile it started to mellow out as we switch-backed up the mountain. It was an overcast day but humid so I was dripping sweat throughout.

The trail crossed streams and we ran over big boulders. I’m proud to say that during the steep uphill I power walked, a skill practiced during the trail marathon in Park City last year.

And just to reinforce how tough trail runners are, race organizers made the finish a steep uphill. Ha.

Great day in Vermont. I can’t wait to go back.

Here’s the link to the series and the race. This Western NH trail running series is top notch. I can’t wait until the next one; The All Out Trail Run in Claremont. I’ve never been to Claremont and can’t wait to see what’s in store for me.

Next week’s race is the South Berwick, ME Strawberry Festival 5 miler. I’m running with my sister and my niece, Gracie.
