About Me

This is me on a Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in 2019.

Hi I’m Kristen. Welcome to my Outdoor Life blog.

This blog is about living an outdoor life; training and racing for ultras and Ironman, hiking big mountains, hanging out with my dogs, making new friends in new places, reading and writing about the outdoors, and most important –  living the best life possible.

A little bit about me:

I have traveled to every US 50 state as of Thursday, September 18, 2025.

I have finished a 50 mile trail race in Maine.
I crossed the finish line at 6 Ironman triathlons.
I completed a one-day Presidential Traverse twice. I
I hiked/ran a one-day Pemi Loop.
I hiked all 48 4,000 footers in NH, twice.
I’ve finished a marathon in 16 of 50 states.

From 2008-2011 I wrote a weekly Outdoor Adventure Column, and never missed a week.

I wrote about Grand County, CO local athletes and outdoor lovers who were active outdoors having amazing adventures such as running races, bike trips and mountain climbing. I love telling people’s stories.

In 2012 I won a Colorado Press Association Award – Best Sports Story – for writing an article about a local woman playing on a men’s hockey team in Grand County.

I published my first book in 2013, Continental Quotient, Stories from Both Sides of the Divide

Today, I live in Sevierville, Tennessee, just down the road from Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. One of my goals is to run/hike all 900 miles of trails in the park. #gsmnp900.
Another goal is to finish a 100 mile trail run and get a buckle.
I really want to finish one more Ironman.

Life is good. There is so much, still, to do and accomplish.
